FACILITIESMaryculter Carriage Driving Centre is set within 52 hectares (130 acres) of grassland, enabling us to teach or take farm tours in safe surroundings, without venturing onto the public highway. We have a number of well trained horses and ponies, all of whom are regularly driven single or in multiples. We have an excellent range of modern and traditional carriages, including the refurbished original Road Coach `The Royal Highlander` |

Our popular `Farm Tour` drive takes visitors through the farm and along the banks of the river Dee, viewing the animals and plentiful bird life and observing modern farming practises. We neighbour the ruins of the ancient chapel (dating from1225) where the Knights Templar worshipped, and pass by the legendary Thunderbolt Hole where one of the Grand Masters of the Knights Templar met his fate! Maybe you will be lucky enough to see the shadowy figure of the `green lady` who is said to roam the valley ! We have superbly flat grass dressage arenas, a full cones course, both man made and natural obstacles, and wonderfully safe pastures, inviting tracks and intriguing woodland corridors, making ideal driving facilities for all standards of students or visitors. The Centre also caters for regular disabled clients on a weekly basis, all year round. Our yard and adjoining stables, harness rooms and coach houses are well designed for teaching all aspects of carriage driving. They are also of great interest to visitors who have come to enjoy a carriage drive or a talk on the history of Horse Drawn Travel. Good accommodation is available locally, or you can caravan on-site. |
